Bringing Our Valley to Life: A Community Mosaic in the Making
A vibrant new mosaic mural will soon brighten a wall at Hwb y Gors, as local residents come together to celebrate the stories, history, and heart of the valley.
Designed by local residents during a series of open workshops, the mural takes inspiration from 1912—the year the building was first opened as a school. The design features much-loved local historical landmarks such as the Woollen Mill, Cresci’s Ice Cream Shop, Cwmgors Colliery and Brickworks and other glimpses of life from that era.
Now it’s time to bring this incredible design to life — and you can be part of it!
A Hands-On Creative Experience
Free Community Mosaic Workshops are open to everyone aged 14 and over. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a complete beginner, you’ll find these sessions fun, relaxed, and welcoming.
You’ll be working alongside local community artist Dani Lee. Dani has previously worked with many Amman Valley residents to create two stunning murals that you may have seen. One is in Glanaman on the wall at the entrance to the car park by Cwmaman Community Centre and the other is on The Old Cross Inn (the blue pub by the main traffic lights in Ammanford). Community members designed and created both of these murals with expert tuition and guidance from Dani Lee.
What to Expect at a Mosaic Workshop
- Fun, Friendly, and Inclusive: No artistic skills or experience are necessary! Dani and her team will guide you through every step of the process, helping you to create something truly special alongside your neighbours.
- All Materials Provided – Tiles, tools, and refreshments are all supplied.
- Join Anytime: Workshops will be running from November throughout this winter, so you can join whenever you’d like to.
- Make Lasting Memories: Be part of a project that celebrates local history and creativity and create a beautiful mural that will last for decades to come.
