More than a cooking course, Sosban Fawr is an opportunity to learn new skills, make friends, build confidence and become part of a team. At Hwb y Gors on Tuesday evenings over ten weeks, from September to November, participants will learn how to create delicious meals, understand healthy and affordable cooking, gain accredited Food Hygiene training and help prepare community feasts for up to 50 guests.
Lucy Harrison, the Hwb’s Community Engagement Officer, a keen home cook who will also be teaching part of the course, says: “Sitting down with family or friends to share a meal is such a pleasure, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You don’t need any experience to join Sosban Fawr – just bring your enthusiasm and we’ll help you build your skills and confidence in the kitchen. Our first course begins on 15th September so we are looking for our initial batch of would-be cooks now. Perhaps we will discover the next Jamie Oliver or Mary Berry!”
Sosban Fawr is led by Cegin Mr Henry (aka Lloyd Henry) who will be teaching in both Welsh and English. It is aimed at anyone aged over 16 and is FREE to participants thanks to funding from The Rayne Foundation. Participants must be able to commit to the full ten week course. Advance booking is essential as places are limited and enquiries are already coming in. A £10 refundable deposit is payable on registration.

Save the date: Guests will be invited to the first community feast on 13th October. Watch our socials @hwbygors for details of how to be at the table.
The programme will run for two years, with a total of five cohorts of twelve students taking part in the ten week programme.
