Holiday Entitlement: pro rata 25 days leave per annum
Ethical Pension scheme with a 6.5% salary contribution being matched by AAT.

Awel Aman Tawe is a pioneering community energy charity based in the upper Amman Valley. For over 25 years we have led climate, culture and community resilience projects, from renewable energy coops to low carbon buildings, arts programmes, green skills, education and wellbeing work. Hwb y Gors is our new low carbon arts, education and enterprise centre, a place for creativity, culture, climate action and community connection.
Position Summary
We are looking for a committed and reliable individual to join our Caffi’r Hen Ysgol team at Hwb y Gors. As a Café Assistant, you will support the daily running of a welcoming community café, combining customer service with community engagement, helping create a friendly space whilst maintaining high standards in service and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve food and drinks (including coffee, teas, and light meals)
- Develop knowledge of food safety & allergens
- Deliver excellent customer service in a warm, inclusive environment
- Handle payments and operate the till accurately
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with food safety regulations
- Support stock control, ordering, and waste reduction practices
- Perform opening & closing checks to ensure the smooth running of the cafe
- Reconcile cash takings
- Promote the charity’s mission, including community renewable energy, sustainability initiatives and community resilience
- Assist with community events, workshops, or outreach activities
- Follow eco-friendly practices (e.g. recycling, reducing food waste, energy efficiency)
Person Specification
Essential
- Welsh speaker/learner committed to Welsh language use.
- Friendly, approachable, trustworthy and reliable
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Confident to work independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Confident numeracy for handling transactions – cash and card
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check
- Flexibility in work hours to assist with events / busy periods including some evenings and weekends
- Evidence of Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Basic food preparation or café experience (preferred but not essential)
- Passion for environmental issues and community engagement
- Experience of volunteering or working in a charity or social enterprise
- Knowledge of sustainable practices (e.g. zero-waste, ethical sourcing)
- Interest in sustainability, renewable energy, and/or community work
Training Provided
- Food hygiene level 2
